| Alcoholics Anonymous |
This fellowship of men & women shares their experience, strength & hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and recover from alcoholism.
Meets in Evans Hall on Tuesday at 12 Noon Thurday at 12 Noon |
| Nearly 25 caring church members have received the 50 hour training course for Christian caregiving and meet in ongoing supervision and continuing education experiences. People in life transitions or challenging circumstances can be matched with a Stephen Minister by contacting the Senior Pastor. | |
| Angel Tree | The Christmas Angel Tree provides gifts to children through the Bethlehem Center. Members pick an angel with the child's gift wish and return gifts for delivery to the Bethlehem Center. |
| CROP Walk | Each year, on a Sunday afternoon in October, 2-3 dozen children, youth and adults from Hawthorne Lane participate in a 10K (6.2 mile) walk to raise money for the hungry. One-fourth (1/4) of the money raised stays in the local community. For more information on the CROP Walk, please follow this link. |
| DISCIPLE Bible Study | The DISCIPLE Bible Study program is designed to develop strong Christian local churches through the in-depth study of Scripture. Through DISCIPLE, persons are strengthened in their faith and guided into service and ministry. | Loaves & Fishes | Hawthorne Lane UMC provides both monetary and food donations to this local, non-denominational organization founded & run by Charlotte religious congregations. It supplies a week's worth of groceries to each family in crisis and is designed to assist those who have exhausted all other options for support. |
| Mission Teams | Our church members reach out to others in need to share their time and skills by joining building teams. The structured projects are administrated by our Western N.C. Conference which take us to foreign countries or to sites right here in the U.S. Our recent trips have been to Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Armenia and the N. C. coast. | M.O.M.S. | Mothers Offering Mutual Support is a time when expecting and new mothers gather to offer advice, support, and Christ's love to one another during this wonderful adventure called parenting. |
| Operation Outreach | This new HLUMC ministry assists children in Iraq and is coordinated by the United Methodist Men. School supplies are being gathered for a local school in An Masiriyah, Iraq through coordination with Major Kennedy. (Need to link Major Kennedy to the Soldiers & Students page) |
| Recreation | HLUMC has the oldest standing gym in Charlotte. You are welcome to come play pickup basketball in the gym on Monday and Thursday nights. The church sponsors two church league teams; softball in the summer and basketball in the winter months. For more information, please click here. |
| Room In Then Inn | Room in the Inn is run through the Urban Ministry Center, an interfaith organization created to address the needs of the poor in our city. Hawthorne Lane UMC joins others in the community to provide overnight accommodations, showers, dinner, breakfast and a bag lunch to 14 homeless participants one night a week during the winter months. | United Methodist Men | This is a national organization of the men of the United Methodist church. Hawthorne Lane reactivated its chapter in 2005 and our men hold monthly meetings and perform service projects around our church. | United Methodist Women | This is Hawthorne Lane's unit of a world-wide mission connection. Women meet monthly in 4 different circles and quarterly in after-worship full unit meetings. For more information, please follow this link. |
| Youth | The youth of the church participate in many different mission opportunities during the year. They do work with church ministries along with yearly summer mission trips. Last year they spent a week in New York City working with the homeless and this year they plan on going to Rutherfordton, NC to work with The Hands of Christ, Inc. |
