Habitat for Humanity
|
Every 2 years, HLUMC joins a team of other churches to build a Habitat House, a hands-on ministry to help provide adequate and affordable housing in our community. Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness and make a decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. |
| Mission Teams |
Our church members reach out to others in need to share their time and skills by joining building teams. The structured projects are administrated by our Western N.C. Conference which take us to foreign countries or to sites right here in the U.S. Our recent trips have been to Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Armenia and the N. C. Coast. Learn More |
| Christmas Angel Tree | Each year, Hawthorne Lane sponsors a Christmas Angel Tree to provide gifts to children through the Bethlehem Center. Church participants pick an angel with a sponsored child's gift wish and return the gifts to the church for delivery to the Bethlehem Center. The Angel Tree is one of the many ways that Hawthorne Lane gives back to the community what God has so richly given us. |
| CROP Walk | Each year on an October Sunday afternoon, 2-3 dozen children, youth, and adults from Hawthorne Lane participate in a 10K (6.2 miles) to raise money for the Charlotte CROP Walk. Our congregation is always generous in their sponsorship of these walkers.. Charlotte has a reputation for holding one of the largest Crop Walks in the country. One-fourth of the money raised supports local agencies like Loaves & Fishes, Crisis Assistance Ministry and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, and the remaining funds go to Church World Service to help alleviate hunger and poverty in 80 countries. |
| Room In The Inn | Room in the Inn is run through the Urban Ministry Center, an interfaith organization created to address the needs of the poor in our city. Hawthorne Lane United Methodist joins others in the community to provide overnight accommodations, showers, dinner, breakfast and a bag lunch to 14 homeless participants one night a week during the winter months. |
| Operation Outreach | This is a new ministry that the United Methodist Men are doing to help out the children of Iraq. We are providing school supplies for local school near An Nasiriyah, Iraq through the help of Major Kennedy |
