Advent @ HLUMC

Advent is a time of preparation…a time to get ready for the birth of Jesus Christ. This year we connect this time of waiting with our worship theme “” by continuing our study of the biblical characters as they connect closer and closer to the baby born in Bethlehem. Not just Mary and Joseph but Elizabeth and Zechariah too, John the Baptist and even Daniel and his friends. Our our tree this year is a Jesse Tree…The Tree of Jesse is a depiction in art of the ancestors of Christ, shown in a tree which rises from Jesse of Bethlehem, the father of King David. Come close each week and notice the people and places from which we all come. And most of all hear the call to peace…God’s peace…

Peace: not just the absence of conflict and suffering (though most days just that would
almost be peace enough); but Shalom: the presence of God’s active reconciliation and blessing.
God’s Peace is God’s Advent Promise to all this children. God’s Peace is our Advent prayer
for each other and the world. God’s Peace is the Advent purpose of Jesus’ Presence…
