LifeGroups @ HLUMC
As we all are trying to figure out how to best do LIFE in the midst of a Covid world so we are as well at HLUMC as we live into life groups. We believe it is so very important to find a group of people who will walk with you in faith. People who will cry with you, laugh with you, celebrate with you, and mourn with you. These people might be the same age and with kids in the same stage or life or might be completely different. We have so much to learn from one another and to give to one another when we come together to study, to share, to break bread around the table. Below is a list of our currently small groups. Many more will start back up as we find our way through Covid and into the fall. But for now – check out these options. And as ALWAYS if you’d like to start a group please do! We can help you with resources, a meeting place, or just encouragement and prayer – whatever you need!
A gathering of women and those who identify as female on Tuesday nights @ 6pm with Pastor Carrie. We usually study a book – various ones – sometimes a book of the Bible, sometimes a theme of faith we are challenged by. We have met in the past around the table at Earl’s grocery in Elizabeth. During the last year and half we have found a great opportunity gathering by Zoom which has provided a place for meeting for those even as far away as Apex NC! We are not sure where/how the future will take us. Maybe an in-person gathering at 6pm and an online gathering at 8pm? We will see. Sacred Space will start back up the end of August. Keep checking here or in our announcements for the kick off date and book to study. Email Pastor Carrie for any questions email@example.com
Some of the books we have read together in the past…
Taste and See: Discovering God Among Butchers, Bakers, and Fresh Food Makers by Margaret Feinberg
The Sacred Echo by Margaret Feinberg
Inspired by Rachel Held Evans
1st Corinthians (Paul for Everyone) by N.T Wright
THEOLOGY on TOP (ToT)
This is a fantastic group of all ages of mostly men (but not limited to that) who gather with Pastor Tom for bible study and drinks/wings afterwards. During Covid we have had to gather by Zoom and bring our own drinks to the meeting but hopefully soon we will be able to gather in person again. Our latest favorite place to meet after bible study is Thomas Street Tavern. The guys in this group range from 30s to 70s! It’s so great to learn from one another, hearing how faith impacts us each at different stages in life. We study the scriptures together as Pastor Tom leads us in thinking about them through various lenses which then encourages us to figure out how to apply the Word to our lives. Come join us! Email Pastor Tom if you are interested in joining in. firstname.lastname@example.org
Circle of Life
We bring our bag chairs, circle-up in the shade over by the dumpster, and solve the problems of the world. Beer and bourbon are the preferred libations, while the occasional cigar provides “atmosphere.” Like manna, food sometimes appears—wings, ribs, cornbread, sweets; but memories, hopes, and everything in between is the fat we always chew. Old men have held it down for a year, but we will scooch-over to make room for you! Women are welcome, too! Every Sunday at 4, weather permitting. Contact Pastor Tom for more information.
