The Work is Never Done

A fisherman can work from… whenever to whenever, but the King Fisher’s work is never done. With a word, Jesus keeps reeling the people in, though his “nets” are full to bursting already. The seashore crowd presses in on him; he gets in a boat and keeps teaching. Before he is done, the fishermen will have caught boatloads of fish, and Jesus will have hooked Simon (and Andrew?), James and John, and made them fishers of people.

Scripture References: Luke 5:1-11, Luke 5:1-11

From Series: "Here is My Son"

As Jesus was baptized by John, the spirit descends upon him and a voice from heaven proclaims “Here is my Son” or “You are my son” (depending on translation).  Not only was Jesus born in Bethlehem with suspicion that he was in fact the Messiah, the Savior of the World but now Jesus’ earthly ministry begins.  God has claimed and called him just has God does for each one of us when we are baptized.  Now in this season of light that started when we held our candles up high on Christmas Eve – bringing light into the dark world, we begin the journey following the true light, the light of Christ.  How will we know what we should do or how to act?  By journeying with Jesus through the stories of his ministry.  Watching what he does as God’s child, as God’s chosen one.  God sends the light into the world through his son Jesus and we are called to lift it high in all the places we go.  In fact God’s light is already here.  Where do we see it, live it, pray it, lift it high?
