REV. DUNCAN MARTIN

Rev. Duncan Martin has served as Hawthorne Lane’s Senior Pastor since 2022. He is originally from Newton, NC and attended Wofford College and Duke Divinity School. Pastor Duncan is an ordained elder in the Western NC Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. Pastor Duncan is married to Rev. Meredith Martin, an ordained deacon in the Western NC Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church who serves as Vice President of Programs at Crossnore Communities for Children. They have twin daughters, Kate and Ginny. In his free time, Pastor Duncan loves being outdoors, playing golf, learning new skills and working with his hands. Pastor Duncan’s hope for our church is that “in all of our ministry, people are brought into a life changing encounter with the radically inclusive love of God in Jesus Christ; Hawthorne Lane is about serving Christ by serving others.”
REV. NINA MILLER
ASSOCIATE PASTOR OF YOUTH AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Rev. Nina Miller has been Hawthorne Lane’s Associate Pastor of Youth and Community Involvement since 2023. She is originally from Virginia and attended Virginia Tech and Duke Divinity School. Pastor Nina is an ordained elder in the Western NC Conference of The United Methodist Church. She was formed by The United Methodist Church’s local churches, camping ministries, and Wesley Foundations. In her free time, Pastor Nina loves supporting Virginia Tech football and women’s basketball, playing football, disc golf, kayaking, hiking and spending quality time with her dog, Bubba. Pastor Nina is also a football referee in her spare time. Pastor Nina’s hope for our church is that “youth and our entire community are brought into fellowship and we are able to serve one another and our larger community and world through missions and outreach.”
LIZANNE MISKELLY

Mrs. Lizanne Miskelly has been Hawthorne Lane’s Director of Children’s Ministries since 2015. She is originally from Ft. Lauderdale, FL and attended Appalachian State University where she earned a degree in Music Education. Mrs. Lizanne is married to Darren Miskelly and the couple has two children, Ben and Sara. In her free time, Mrs. Lizanne loves fostering puppies, spending time in nature and enjoying being an “empty nester.” Mrs. Lizanne’s hope for our church is that “the children we serve feel loved! My desire is to help strengthen their faith and bring them closer to God. I want them to go through life knowing God is always with them, and God loves them through all the victories and challenges they might experience. Hawthorne Lane UMC aims to provide children with experiences they cannot get anywhere else in their faith journey.”
TIM ARMSTRONG

Mr. Tim Armstrong has been Hawthorne Lane’s Director of Music Ministries since 2022. He is a UMC preacher’s kid from all over North Carolina and attended UNC Charlotte. The majority of Tim’s music training has come from his lifelong service to United Methodist churches where he has worked with many amazing music leaders and ministers; he reports having limited formal training but it’s hard to believe that when you hear him play! Tim has worked full time in the airline industry for the last 40 years. Tim is married to Faye Armstrong and the couple has 2 children and 2 grandchildren. In his free time, Tim loves spending time with his family (especially the grandkids), being outside and working in the yard. Tim’s hope for our church is “to grow our music team, to, find meaningful ways to lead worship through music and continue leading a very faithful group of musicians. They make my job fun and easy!”
